I've been making 3D pieces for awhile now. It's fun to make cross stitch into something besides a pillow or picture on the wall.

My husband is always trying to get me to stitch something more functional. Maybe when my daughter is a little bit older I can stitch her a doll or something.

Do you just sew extra bits of aida together and stuff it?

I cross stitch the aida into the pattern shapes, cut them out with a seam allowance and then sew them together. The only thing that is a pain is that the aida wants to unravel. I have to either use something like fraycheck or iron on pellon on the back. And then I stuff them with polyfluff. The TARDIS is stuffed with polyfluff and a block of foam rubber.

Yeah, aida is a pain when it comes to that. I always forget to prep my projects with Fray Check and halfway through, I regret it. I just get so anxious to start.

Thanks for the info. I may have to try something like that. Will have to start with something easy, for sure. :)

Wow, what a glowing comment! I just want to make something other than flat items. Plus I love soft sculpture, it just seemed like a natural thing to do.

Thanks. She was pretty much a test. I wanted to see how to make the hair. The next one I do, I now know won't need nearly as much hair as this one has. I used about 15 skeins of floss (I have that color on a cone)

Thanks.

Probably not. The floss looks a lot more red in the photo than it does in life. Not sure why it turned out like that. But it will look about the same shade as in the pic.
